Old Amplefordians & families gather in Madrid & New York

Over the past month, the Ampleforth Society has been delighted to bring together Old Amplefordians on both sides of the Atlantic, with warm and lively gatherings in Madrid and New York.

In Madrid, over 50 Old Amplefordians and prospective parents gathered for an evening reception to connect with one another and meet members of the College and Abbey leadership. Guests were warmly welcomed by Jon Mutton, Headmaster, Fr Cedd, Emma Craig, Head of Development, and Harriet Langdale, Director of Admissions, Communications and Marketing, who shared updates on recent developments at Ampleforth and introducing families to the unique offer that Ampleforth has for their children.

The evening was made all the more special by heartfelt speeches from recent leavers Keza Pitteloud (M23) and Nacho Fay (H21), who spoke with real passion about the impact Ampleforth has had on their lives. It was also wonderful to see so many Old Amplefordians now raising young families — many of whom are looking to send their children to Ampleforth in the coming years, following in their own footsteps.

In New York, Emma Craig and Fr Wulstan Peterburs, Chair of the Ampleforth Abbey Trust, spent several days meeting with Old Amplefordians, former parents, and friends of Ampleforth — a visit that culminated in a fantastic Society gathering in the city. Old Amplefordians came together for drinks and dinner, in a group that spanned the decades, from two leavers of 1955 to two recent alumni currently studying at Columbia University and Fordham University.

Many Old Amplefordians have relocated or returned home to New York over the years, pursuing careers in finance, journalism, academia, and other fields, often following postgraduate study at the top universities in the United States. This growing and vibrant community in New York brings a distinctive Ampleforth presence to one of the world’s most dynamic cities and we are very grateful for this community’s advocacy for Ampleforth in the USA.

These events are a brilliant reminder that wherever life takes us, the Ampleforth bond endures — rooted in friendship, shared values, and a deep sense of belonging.

We are always keen to support Old Amplefordians and Parents in hosting local gatherings, as well as to hear from those who would like to act as ambassadors for the College and the Abbey to reach out further. If you’re interested in organising something in your part of the world, do get in touch — we would love to hear from you.

Ut in omnibus glorificetur Deus
