Welcome from the Chair of Trustees 

The Lord Stafford DL (C72) 

Welcome to the Ampleforth Society—a home for all those whose lives have been shaped by Ampleforth, through their connection with the College and the monks of Ampleforth Abbey. 

As an Old Amplefordian, a former parent, and a member of a family deeply connected to the valley across generations, I am honoured to serve as Chair of Trustees. Ampleforth has played a central role in my life—from meeting my wife Katie during the Easter Retreat to watching our sons, nieces, nephews, and cousins grow within the same tradition of faith and learning. 

The Ampleforth Society is more than an alumni and parents’ network; it is a lifelong community rooted in Benedictine values. It fosters friendship, spiritual growth, and mutual support across the world, helping Old Amplefordians, Parents and friends of Ampleforth remain connected not just to each other, but also to the Abbey and the College that has helped form us. 

This is a pivotal moment for our Society. We are building on a strong foundation with renewed ambition—creating vibrant regional and international networks, launching mentoring and career pathways, expanding opportunities for faith-based engagement, and deepening the sense of belonging to Ampleforth through events, retreats, and opportunities to actively engage with life in and beyond the valley. 

We are also embracing a spirit of service, encouraging all members to give back—whether by supporting current students, sharing professional wisdom, or contributing to the future of the College and the Monastic Community. In doing so, we fulfil our shared responsibility to ensure that the Ampleforth legacy endures and continues to inspire future generations. 

I warmly invite you to take part in this journey. Whether you're returning to the valley, mentoring a young OA, joining a professional network, or simply reconnecting with old friends—your presence strengthens the Society and its mission.
