Deaths

John arrived in Ampleforth as I arrived into my A level years; he was an inspiring teacher, always ready to discuss and encourage. One of my most enjoyable memories is of a natural history expectation he led to the island of Eigg around 1966, I think, with Father Aidan (I think), a wonderful introduction to field ecology, which cemented me in desire to become a marine biologist. He was a great supporter of our Natural History Society and always inventive in his approach to teaching. I'm very sad to hear he's died; I remember him so boisterously full of life. All my sympathy goes to his family.
