This is a 3 pair scratch foursomes knock out competition for 32 of the Hewitt schools.
Our first round match against Blundells was a thrilling encounter. Finbarr O’Connor and Andrew Mangeot narrowly lost against their top pair. Martin Hattrell and Simon Hardy were 3 down after 6 holes but recovered strongly to level the match on the 17th and finally won on the 19th. The match thus rested on the outcome of the match involving Chris Healy and David Piggins. They were never ahead during their match and at 2 down on the 17th tee, all seemed lost, but an astonishing 4 at the 17th including a 40ft putt by David and a rare 3 at the 18th with again David sinking a putt from off the green took the nail-biting decider to extra holes. Sadly however the match ended in defeat at the 21st- A valiant effort and thrilling to watch!
Match Result L 2-1
In the Plate competition, we played Kings Canterbury. The top pair (Finbarr and Andrew) played superbly to win 2-1 as did Martin and Simon, while Chris and David struggled after the excitement of the morning.
Match Result W 2-1
We then played a very strong Edinburgh Academy team. Finbarr and Andrew struggled to contain their top pair who were 1 over par when they won their match. Martin and Simon were also unable to assert themselves losing 4/3 leaving Chris and David to agree an honourable draw.
Match Result L 2 ½ - ½
In the Senior Cyril Gray, our Hon President and Hon Secretary enjoyed a most convivial round playing with a delightful pair from Glenalmond and coming in with 22 points in a very creditable 6th place in a scratch foursomes stableford competition.
