Ampleforth Society Weekend 2019
The Abbot and the Monastic Community have great pleasure in inviting members of the Ampleforth Society to this year's Ampleforth Society Weekend, taking place at Ampleforth between 11 and 13 October, 2019. This annual celebration of our 16,000 strong global community provides a wonderful opportunity to visit the Valley and reunite with old friends for an array of activities.
The Annual General Meeting of the Society will take place in the early evening of Saturday, 12 October, to accommodate those wishing to join the live watch of the Rugby World Cup on Saturday morning. The highlight of the Weekend will be the Ampleforth Society Annual Dinner which, like last year, will take place in the Performing Arts Centre (the old gym). The opportunity to exchange news and views, the excellent food and the music provided by a live Jazz Band will again make this a memorable and popular celebration for the Ampleforth Family, so please confirm you will be joining us as soon as possible.

Friday
Enjoy a fish pie supper in Windmill and meet other Society members who have returned to the Valley for the weekend’s activities. After dinner, face the challenge of the Ampleforth Quiz, putting your knowledge of all things Ampleforth to the test.
Saturday
Wake up to a delicious breakfast in the Tea room before joining one of several morning activities:
A) Experience the excitement of the England vs. France 2019 Rugby World Cup fixture by watching a live stream of the match. We are delighted to announce that this live watch will be introduced by former Wales international rugby union player and Head of Rugby at Ampleforth College, Will James.
B) Offer career advice and guidance to Sixth Form Pupils during our ‘entrepreneurship networking' morning.
C) Visit your House and take a tour of the College to see how the site has changed and developed over the years.
After enjoying lunch in the Main Hall, we invite you to attend one of our afternoon activities:
A) Attend a presentation and workshop with OA Mark Coreth (O77) who will discuss the inspiration behind the new 'swift' sculpture he has kindly created for Ampleforth.
B) Pause and reflect at the retreat hour being delivered by Fr Richard ffield OSB. The themes of Fr Richard’s other retreats this year have included “The Holy Spirit: Who on Earth is She?” and Benedict for Today.
C) Cheer on current pupils during a number of College Rugby, Hockey and Netball fixtures.
D) Join a guided tour of Ampleforth Plus led by Simon Cale, Head of Enterprises at Autism Plus, and see all the wonderful initiatives being run by Simon and his team of hardworking volunteers.
The afternoon will also witness a reunion of the Old Amplefordian Rifle Club who shot at Bisley in 1969. This OARC team will be participating in a shooting competition against current pupils to celebrate 50 years since their 5-man A Team won the Public School Veterans (PSV) Match at Bisley.
After a short break, we invite you to attend the AGM of the Ampleforth Society and raise your thoughts and questions with the trustees of the Society. The Weekend's activities will culminate with the Ampleforth Society Annual Dinner in our fantastic Performing Arts Centre.
After Sunday Mass, the weekend will conclude with the blessing of our new ‘swift’ sculpture by renowned sculptor, Mark Coreth.
