An invitation from the Head Monitors
“We are sure that during your time at Ampleforth, the sense of community was central to life in the valley. Those of us who are lucky enough to call Ampleforth home at present feel this sense of community when we walk through Big Passage and Big Study, sit in the classroom or the Library, when in the Boarding Houses and the Abbey Church. We feel that same, familiar, sense of community when we meet Old Amplefordians, whether out in the world, or here in the valley. It is such a pleasure for us to welcome you all back to Ampleforth, which is as much your home as it is ours, and hear stories of your time at Ampleforth while sharing the life of the school today with you.
On behalf of all the boys and girls in the school, we would like to encourage all of you, if you have the time, to pay a visit to the school. Come to Mass in the Abbey on Sunday mornings, join us for coffee in Main Hall afterwards, or Schola Mass on Friday evenings. Pop in and visit the College, have a tour led by current students. Come and support the Ampleforth sports teams when they have fixtures in the valley, joining your voices with the ever familiar “SHAC, SHAC, Red and Black”, and enjoy a cup of tea in the Pavilion where you will see familiar faces spread across the walls. We would be especially honoured if you would consider sharing your time and expertise by delivering a careers talk to pupils at the school, to inspire them and offer real life example of what an Amplefordian can achieve.
It is still the case that Community is central to life in the valley, but that community is not confined by the hills of North Yorkshire, it spreads across the globe to each and every member of the Ampleforth family. You are our link between past and present, North Yorkshire and the wider world. From all the students, we hope to welcome you back to visit us in the valley soon. “
*PLEASE NOTE THAT COLLEGE MASS ON SUNDAY 8TH OCTOBER WILL BE REPLACED BY HOUSE MASS.
Schola Mass is in the Monk’s Quire on Fridays at 7pm. College Mass in the Abbey Church is at 11.15am on Sunday, followed by Coffee in Main Hall.
Upcoming fixtures can be found here: Ampleforth College | Sports Home (ampleforthsport.org.uk)
