Nicholas de Bouillane - Team Sponge Triathletes

Team Sponge Nicholas de Bouillane

Many of you will know, some may not but I'm pretty passionate about triathlon and have been ever since living in Thailand back in 2012.

This year I’ve been lucky enough to be selected as a member of 'Team Sponge', a group of 9 triathletes endeavouring to give back to the sport and raise money for a number of partner charities while being supported by some of the industry’s leading brands:

We have a special focus on charities supporting para-triathlon, youth sport and teaching kids to swim:

Our 1st Charity is Arctic One, who enable para athletes to learn the basics of triathlon. They provide funding to purchase prosthetic limbs that allow recipients the freedom to run

Our 2nd charity is Triathlon Trust, the official charity of British Triathlon. They use the sport of triathlon to encourage children to lead more active and healthier lifestyles. Since 2012, Triathlon Trust have delivered over 80,000 Active Days, providing fun, free and inclusive opportunities for children of all abilities to get involved in the sport

Our 3rd reason to #TRIFORGOOD is our very own international community project to build a pool on the island of Nevis. On this tiny island in the middle of the Caribbean, swimming should be one of the first basics taught to young children, especially as a life-saving skill. However locals are scared to swim in the sea and there are no public swimming pools. We want to raise funds to contribute to the opening of the first public swimming pool on Nevis island, giving children, as well as adults, the opportunity to learn how to swim in a safe environment.

As a group, we have set ourselves a challenging target of raising £50,000 to support these charities.

Specifically, what am I doing I hear you ask….

Well, I’m going to be taking on……not one half ironman race, not two half ironman races but three half ironman races over the course of 5 weeks starting on the 20th August.

20th August: New Forest Middle Distance Triathlon

3rd September: Ironman 70.3 Portugal

17th September: Ironman 70.3 Weymouth
