OAGS enjoys a great weekend at Ganton

OAGS

The Old Amplefordian Golfing Society had its annual September weekend at Ganton Golf Club from 29 September to 1 October this year. A great turnout once again for this flagship northern weekend, with 18 OAs playing on North Yorkshire’s finest course. The OAs were valiant “runners up” to Sedbergh on Friday but Saturday saw some excellent performances throughout the day, with the 18 hole Stableford in the morning and then Foursomes golf in the afternoon. Saturday was rounded off by a fantastic supper at the Club where the OAs played host to the Headmaster, Peter Roberts, his wife Marie, and Emma Craig from the College. Marie handed out the prizes this year, a list of which can be found below, and the OAs were heartened by Peter’s friendship towards the OAGS and his exciting update on the positive momentum in the valley, which continued onto the next day in the annual fixture against the school.

In a recent first, the match manager, Christian Minchella (H94), played against his daughter who was representing the school as one of a very promising ladies pairing. There were many family connections between the school players and the OAs, which made the day extremely enjoyable. For the first time in many years the OAs lost to the school, but they took defeat graciously, particularly as it bodes well for the future of the OAGS.

Our thanks, and those of all involved with the weekend, to Christian Minchella for his hard work in making it all come together so successfully again, a highlight of the year for all involved. We look forward to next year already, where the OAs hope to return to victory against SHAC and enjoy an excellent supper hosted at the College in a year’s time.

The players over the weekend were:
