OARFC Finish 1st in the Movember UK Sports Challenge

OARFC

We are thrilled to share that the OARFC have been officially recognised as the top Movember Team Fundraisers of 2020.

In August 2020, following the passing of OARFC member Ben Connery (T07), the club launched a 'Movember' campaign in his memory with the aim of collectively raising £15,000. Fundraising for a cause now all too close to their hearts, the OARFC Club Secretary, Adam Smith (D08), said their aim was to 'help end the stigma surrounding men's mental health and help prevent suicide.'

As well as sporting an brilliant range of moustaches, 11 members of the team also embarked on a bike ride from Hammersmith to St John's College Oxford (Ben's old College) and back again, all in one single day. After a month of nurturing their impressive array of lip toupées, the team surpassed their target of £15,000 and eventually raised a whopping £24,049. As such, the OARFC finished 1st in the UK Sports Challenge.

OA John Dick (O77)  says: 'As Chairman of the OARFC I am very proud of what we have achieved as a Club, especially in view of how small we are.'

A fantastic effort by the entire team - well done chaps!
