Jeremy Deedes (W73) Great North Run

Jeremy Deedes

Jeremy Deedes (W73) writes:

I was inspired to enter my 14th (and probably my last) Great North half-marathon by Andy Daly, whose life changed beyond recognition after his accident in March and who remains in the High Dependency Unit at James Cook Hospital, Middlesborough.

A trip and a fall down the stairs was all it took.

Headway have been involved with Andy from the start. They are a UK charity dedicated to helping brain trauma survivors regain some quality of life through a wide range of services, including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social re-integration, community outreach and respite care. James Cracknell is Vice President.

Andy’s accident has brought home to all who know him how vulnerable we are. For most of us the world of brain trauma injuries is new, dark and frightening. I am running the Great North this year for Andy, his family and friends, and all those whose lives have been changed so unexpectedly by brain trauma and who are supported by Headway.
