Farewell to Gilling Castle

Castle

On Sunday 1st July 2018, Gilling Castle opened its doors for ‘Farewell Drinks at the Castle.’  The Ampleforth Society was delighted to welcome more than 140 old boys and girls back to the school to celebrate the end of an era at the Castle.

After a welcome from Fr Ambrose Henley OSB, guests of all ages mingled and wandered through the Castle as they reminisced about times past whilst enjoying champagne and an enticing canapé selection provided by Poppy’s.

It was clear how delighted people were to see old friends and faces as they ambled through various rooms listening to the calming sounds of harpist, Georgina Wells, while others enjoyed the splendour of the gardens in glorious sunshine.

We were delighted to be joined on the day by Fr Leo Chamberlain OSB, Fr Henry Wansbrough OSB, Fr Matthew Burns OSB and Fr Christopher Gorst OSB who all enjoyed their time with us.  We were also joined by Hannah Phillips from Fairfax House, who gave us a short talk about the historical connections with the Fairfax Family.  All in all, it was a wonderful day enjoyed by everyone in attendance and a fitting way to say farewell to the Castle.
