There will be a Memorial Service for Tim at 2 pm on Friday 6th March at St Nicholas Church, Remenham, Henley on Thames RG9 3DD, followed by refreshments at Henley Rugby Club.
Tim Price was a contemporary of mine at Gilling, through Junior House, into the Upper School. We became good chums. In the last six years at Ampleforth we were both keen beaglers - he got his hunt stockings and hunt pullover a shade before me, and always beat me in the Hunt cross-country races! His grandmother owned a house in Oswaldkirk, and frequently after hunts she would convey several of us back there in her small grey Austin to have boiled eggs for tea. He was openside wing forward in the 2nd XV, and so played in the 1st Set under Basil Hume's coaching. I played in the 3rd XV. For just one match Tim played in the 1st XV - against Sedbergh. He was elevated that day because the usual and 'schoolboy hero' wing forward Tony Bucknall (also A63 and who later captained England) was "off sick" and Tim was tasked with shutting down the Sedbergh legendary fly-half. I didn't witness the match as I had been elevated to 2nd XV to fill Tim's usual place there. Having joined the Army, I totally lost touch with Tim. The last time I met him - after a gap of forty years - was at the Ampleforth bicentenary dinner in London in 2003. A few years ago I was given a copy of a photo of a group of us youngsters at cubbing at Gilling, in which inter alios Tim, Bucknall and I feature. I would be happy to forward it to anyone who contacts me at goldschmidt1717@gmail.com May Tim rest in peace.
The organ in Remenham Church is not working, so the service has been moved to St Mary's Church, Hart Street, Henley RG9 2AU and the time has been changed to 2.30 pm.
