The Ampleforth Society is delighted to invite its members to the second Virtual St Laurence Ethics Forum, taking place at 7:00pm on Thursday, 25th June. 

As part of the Society’s series of events which consider the ethical implications of the global response to COVID-19, our second forum will explore the impact of the pandemic on faith and spirituality. The forum will draw upon the knowledge and expertise of Fr Richard ffield OSB (A59) and Fr Cedd Mannion OSB, and will be Chaired by Ampleforth Society Trustee, Patrick Tolhurst (C99). 

The panel will discuss faith in a time of crisis and will examine how the church has adapted to the lockdown restrictions, both locally and internationally, as well as the long-term effects of the pandemic on the church and its faithful.   

We also invite guests to raise their own questions during the event via the live chat function.

Bio

Fr Richard ffield OSB (A59):  

Fr Richard joined the monastery 50 years ago after training as an engineer. After being a Housemaster for 21 years, he spent 12 years as a member of our Monastery of Christ the Word in Zimbabwe. Fr Richard is currently the Editor of the Ampleforth Journal, as well as Chaplain to St Cuthbert’s House.  

 

Fr Cedd Mannion OSB:  

Fr Cedd has been a monk of Ampleforth since 2006. As well as being a trustee of the Ampleforth Abbey Trust, he has taught Chemistry within Ampleforth College, as well as being Chaplain to St Dunstan’s House and Choirmaster in the monastery. 

 

Patrick Tolhurst:  

Patrick is an Old Amplefordian (C99) who is currently Partner at Marlborough House Partners LLP. In 2013, Patrick became a trustee of the Ampleforth Society and has since helped change the way the Society is organised, establish the St Laurence Ethics Forum and co-ordinate the Society's London Committee.
