Ampleforth Society Virtual Careers Event: Insight into Insurance
The Ampleforth Society warmly invites its members to the third Industry Insight event.
Following two events in November examining entrepreneurship and finance, the third event will take place at 6:45pm on Thursday, 3rd December and will be focused on working in the insurance sector. The event will be chaired by Rory Smith (H09), Chair of the Society's London Committee, and will feature five OA guest speakers: Camilla Curry (née Bellhouse) (M08), Louis Robertson (E00), David Casado (A89), Oliver Micklem (O09), and Eleanor Swinburne (M15). The panellists will discuss their career journey from Ampleforth to present day, and debate what the future holds for their sector.

Rory Smith (H09)
After an internship with a national newspaper in India immediately after leaving Ampleforth, Rory has since written for a variety of newspapers, magazines and websites, covering everything from travel to food, motoring and sport. More recently, Rory was editor of the electric racing series Formula E and now works as editor for the technology company Dyson.
Camilla Curry (née Bellhouse) (M08)
Camilla is currently working at MS Amlin as an Assistant Underwriter within the Bloodstock & Livestock market. She manages a uniquely structured book where she provides capacity to an MGA who insure high value horses worldwide, from Stallions and Racehorses, to Showjumpers, Eventers and Dressage horses. However, Camilla did not consider insurance as a career until 2018, prior to which she worked within the Fintech and Insurtech space, leading her company into the German market. This is when she first saw Insurance as an interesting career option, as it allowed her to work in a class that she is interested in, as well as being able to use her languages; Camilla is fluent in German and Italian.
Louis Robertson (E00)
After going to Newcastle to study politics, Louis now has over 15 years experience in insurance. His first role was at Willis (now Willis Towers Watson), where he then moved to an underwriting role in 2011 at Munich Re Syndicate, before joining Tokio Marine Kiln Syndicate in 2015 as an Underwriter. Louis has worked in Fine Art, Jewellery and Specie: a sub sector within the Marine class.
David Casado (A89)
David left Ampleforth in 1989, after which he studied Spanish and Latin American Studies at Newcastle and later International Relations at Cambridge. David is currently General Manager Internal of Liberty Mutual Group – Madrid.
Oliver Micklem (O09)
Oliver is a marine insurance broker and has been working at UIB for the past 5 years. He places a variety of marine insurance products for clients across the world using the Lloyds & International Markets.
Eleanor Swinburne (M15)
Eleanor left Ampleforth in 2015 and spent a year living in Qingdao, China as a teaching assistant. She then undertook an undergraduate course in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at the University of Cambridge, followed by a Masters in Real Estate Finance at the same. She finished her masters in July of this year and started working in October at HWF Partners in London, an insurance broker specialising in transactional risk insurance.
