The Ampleforth Society warmly invites its members to the latest Industry Insights event exploring the future of working in Asia on Saturday 6 February at 6.00pm Hong Kong Time (10.00am GMT)

The event will be chaired by Ampleforth Society trustee, Colonel Nick Channer OBE (D81), and will feature guest speakers William Osler (W98), Edwin Leung (T97), Michael Brennan (H95), Edward Radcliffe (E88) and Brian Kim. The panellists will discuss their career journey from Ampleforth to present day, and debate what the future holds for working in Asia.

Colonel Nick Channer OBE (D81) is currently Chief of Staff at Wilson James Ltd, a leading security, logistics and aviation services provider with more than 5,000 employees operating across the UK. Prior to assuming his position at Wilson James, Nick enjoyed several senior roles within the armed forces, including as Chief of Staff British Armed Forces (Germany). As well as being an Old Amplefordian and parent of three OAs, Nick is also one of the Trustees of the Ampleforth Society and is looking forward to a hearty discussion learning more about some of the careers we can think about overseas. 

William Osler (W98) is an English Teacher in Kobe City, Japan. He spent three years with Berlitz and three years as an Assisted Language Teacher. He also works part-time at a Ramen shop and is hoping open a UK-based shop when he has fully mastered the art of it. 

Edwin Leung (T97) Based in Hong Kong. After his education at Ampleforth College he went on to study at University College, London and City University for his MA. Edwin moved on to a London retail bank to work on residential and credit loan approvals. In 2006 Edwin left the UK and relocated to Hong Kong in order to pursue his career further, joining Fidelity International, a leading asset management company. After 15 years with the company, he has experienced various roles and now heads up the ‘Insights’ function for the Asia Pacific ex.Japan regions.  

Michael Brennan (H95) Based in Singapore. After leaving Ampleforth College and studying Classics at Oxford Michael practised as a lawyer at 300 year old law firm Freshfields and then moved onto emerging markets at White & Case. With incredible global banking experience in Singapore, the Philippines, China, UK, Mexico and Panama and currently the Chief Executive of BBVA Singapore and Head of Client Coverage for South East Asia and India we are delighted Michael is joining us live.  

Edward Radcliffe (E88) has spent much of his career based in and focused on China. He co-founded Vermilion Partners in 2004, having first started advising international companies on China in 1994. Edward has helped formulate and implement China strategies for numerous leading international firms and has worked in the healthcare, consumer goods, telecommunications and energy sectors. Prior to founding Vermilion, Edward was General Manager of Whitefox Technologies Limited, which specialises in the development and commercialisation of environmental technology. Before joining Whitefox, Edward was Head of Online Retail at BT Retail, a division of BT Group plc.   From 1994 to 2000, Edward served as Director and Chief Representative of Batey Burn, a leading China advisory firm in Beijing, before returning to London as the UK managing director. Edward served as Treasurer of the British Chamber of Commerce in China, 1997-98, and as a Council member of the China-Britain Business Council from 1999 to 2000. From 2015 until 2018, he was a director of BOCIM, the fund management joint venture between Blackrock and Bank of China, as a nominee of Blackrock. Edward holds a BA (Hons.) in Chinese Studies from Durham University, UK, as well as an MBA from INSEAD, France, and speaks fluent Mandarin. 

Brian Kim (Friend of Ampleforth Society) Based in South Korea. After graduating from Handong Global University, Pohang, Korea in English Literature & English translation, followed by a MA in Computer Science from Sejong University. Brian is Director/Partner of the Yozma Group Korea Global startup accelerator that includes a seed funding process. He has a vast experience in the Israeli startup eco-system for 15 years therefore he understands the best global practice and effective business modelling with scaling-up strategy. He also has deep knowledge of the Korean Government's working process and business culture when he served at the Korea-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation for 13 years. This is international governmental foundation evaluates and funding to the more than 200 joint R&D projects between Korean and Israeli companies with $50 million fund.
