This year a trio of OAs from the South made the journey up to Northumberland to sample the delights of Bamburgh & Goswick - namely Crispian Collins, Hugh Grieve and Nick North. The weather on Friday at Bamburgh was superb and after a light lunch we drove off into wind on the 1st (par 3) - Crispian lost his ball into the North Sea! Simon Ainscough was accompanied by his well trained dogs to give him encouragement but maybe they distracted him? Afterwards we all met at the Carroll’s to admire the views, sip G&T and had a superb dinner.
According to the weather forecast, Saturday at Goswick promised to rain all day – something that pleased the farmers, Carroll & Ainscough. As it happened it only drizzled intermittently and was warm. After a post game bowl of soup and sandwiches, some of us retired to watch a rich variety of sport chez Ainscough – England lost the rugby but won the cricket and the US Open seemed too difficult for the Pros!
Our thanks are due to Mark Cuddigan for making the arrangements. However, sadly, due to a family bereavement he and Jack were unable to attend. The organising fell to Anthony Carroll who masterfully controlled the handicapping (but sadly not his golf). Our thanks to the Carroll’s, Aincough’s & Thunders for hosting us throughout a wonderful weekend.
The results were:
Hcp Bamburgh Goswick Total
