Thursday 28th September - Alwoodley

As a precursor to the weekend Bill Browne had arranged for a match at the delightful course of Alwoodley, near Leeds, against the Old Rugbians. Sadly this was called off but Bill Browne, Guy Henderson and Andrew Lochhead managed to play there and were looked after superbly by Neil Crawford, an Old Salopian. It is hoped we might be able to arrange a match against the Club in the future.

Friday 29th September – OAGS versus Old Sedbergians - Lost 1 - 3

We met at noon for a sandwich lunch and played in glorious sunshine against the Old Sedberghians led by George Page. Sadly we went down 1-3 but much fun was had by all except David de Chazal & Robin Andrews who stopped after a few holes so it was left to Peter Thomasson to fight bravely on. We then retired to our old stamping ground of the Blue Bell at Weaverthorpe for an excellent meal.

Saturday 30th September – OAGS Singles

Another fine day with a later start than usual start for our singles round. The Ampleforth Bowl was retained once more by Charles Jackson who was steady as a rock. This year we did not have time to play the traditional foursomes as the OAGS were invited to join the Ampleforth Society for drinks and supper where mixed with staff and guests. Fr Prior hosted the supper but we managed to squeeze in the presentation of OAGS trophies.

Winners:

Ganton Driving Mashie [Singles Scratch]: Winner – Guy Henderson (22)

Ampleforth Bowl [Singles Hcp]: Winner – Charles Jackson (34)

Palengat Cup [Singles over 60]: Winner – Peter Thomasson (26)

The Gibbs Salver and Goremire putter will have to wait to be played for next year.

Sunday 1st October - OAGS v The School
